REBECCA JAMES

Having lived and worked in London, Rebecca James now teaches yoga in Hampshire and on retreats in England and France. Rebecca has practised yoga since she was a teenager and took her yoga teacher training at the Sivananda Ashram in India in 2005. More recently she has been taking courses with J. Brown, Peter Blackaby and Kristine Kaoverii Weber to further her understanding of yoga and the nervous system, chronic pain and brain optimisation. What she has learnt over her many years of studying with different teachers is that yoga can help us all feel better in some way. We don’t have to be super flexible or fit, we can do simple, gentle movements and feel the benefits. All we need to practice is the courage to listen, to breathe and to be curious about how we feel in the moment.

Using her knowledge of Hatha, Vinyasa, Jivamukti, Yin, Restorative and Subtle yoga, Rebecca creates classes that are a mixture of these many and varied influences. The yoga that she currently teaches encourages us to enquire into our relationship with our body, our mind, our emotions, our community and our environment. She finds that slowing down and making space in the practice allows us to notice more subtle sensations in our bodymind.  As we begin to explore these embodied connections, we notice that our perception of these relationships influences how we feel and behave in the world. Only then is it possible to break down old unhelpful patterns in our system and replace them with new healthy patterns, so that we feel more at ease. As well as being a powerful transformational tool, yoga balances the desire for change with acceptance and the felt sense that we are already enough just as we are. It is this balance between self-transformation and self-acceptance that is at the great of Rebecca’s own personal practice and provides the inspiration for the classes that she teaches.

ITINERARY

A typical day would begin with an hour and a half long morning yoga session from 8.30 – 10.00am followed by a healthy continental breakfast.

After breakfast, you can spend a leisurely day relaxing by the pool or you might like to take a walk along the canals of the inspirational Venice Verte. You can take a punt down the canal to a local cafe, explore a traditional French market or perhaps enjoy a delicious lunch in a local town and then sit and read a book under one of the ancient trees in our beautiful garden.

There will then be another yoga session from 5.30 – 7.00pm before a nutritious gourmet meal prepared by your hosts Emily and Matt.

After supper you can choose to read, chat with friends or round off your day from 9.30 – 10.00pm with a guided meditation or deep relaxation before bed.

None of the activities are compulsory so you can choose how you would like to spend each day.

Overall the holiday is very relaxed and is a chance to unwind whilst exploring different aspects of your yoga and meditation practice with an experienced teacher in a beautiful and nurturing environment..

TESTIMONIALS

‘Prior to the retreat I hadn’t practised yoga seriously in a while, but Rebecca’s teaching catered perfectly for different abilities. Her calm energy and inspiring words, along with the beautiful setting and fabulous food created by hosts Matt and Emily, made it a really special experience. Great for mind, body and soul, and I left feeling super-relaxed.’

What a wonderful, interesting, life-affirming few days.

Thank you Rebecca! It was great to practise yoga and reflect on life in such a gorgeous place -and with such a lovely group. I've improved and learned much -you somehow provided a challenging class for all levels. To be expertly taught and guided for 4 days gave me much to reflect upon and put into my practice.

The meditation in the peaceful countryside; the 90 mins of challenging flow and Hatha yoga followed by the fabulous, healthy breakfast (...and those pastries:-)) -the river trip; chilling by the pool; the afternoon practice; the amazing outdoor meals and yoga nidris before bed - loved it all!

I absolutely loved it and found the effect lasted for days afterwards. I thought the timetable was perfect for me - I loved the early suppers and bedtimes. The setting was absolutely lovely and the building itself was really attractive and all the little touches like lovely flowers everywhere made for a very special stay. The food was completely delicious and healthy - I loved it all! The massage was very good. There was a really nice welcoming homely atmosphere which was lovely too - and not too many people which felt cosy. Thank you.
